Ile Louët

During our June 2025 trip to France, we spent five nights in Brittany. After an evening in Quimper, we picked up a rental car and drove to Carantec.  Carantec is about an hour and a half north of Quimper, located along the northern coast of Brittany. There were several things in the immediate vicinity that I wanted to see, and the town of Carantec was quite beautiful itself.

Off the coast of Carantec sits a small lighthouse on one of the many islands in the Bay of Morlaix. The lighthouse on Ile Louët dates from the 19th century.  Another nearby island has the Château du Taureau, a fortress completed in 1745.

I had hoped to get a nice photo of the Ile Louët and Château du Taureau. A coastal path provides easy access to the coast with many excellent viewpoints. I went both at sunrise and sunset over the course of two days. I ended up getting good photos at both times. This photo is from sunset. The sun set to the left, and pink light spilled across the scene:

I really enjoyed Carantec. We had a nice small apartment near the beach, with easy walking access to the town and coastline. The town was beautiful, particularly with the hydrangeas and other flowers blooming.
